5 Reasons to Buy an Organic Crib Mattress for Your Baby
By Danielle Thegreenerme
The difference in price between organic crib mattresses and non organic crib mattresses can seem substantial, but when you weigh the benefits of an organic crib mattress to the negatives of a non-organic crib mattress, you'll soon see that the price is worth it. If you buy anything organic in your nursery, the mattress is one to consider investing in. "Babies are always more trouble than you thought - and more wonderful." -- Charles Osgood Babies are wonderful. For your wonderful newborn baby, you'll only want to get the best for them. Here are some reasons why you should buy an organic mattress for your baby: 1. Your baby will spend 70% of their time sleeping on the mattress. That's direct contact with the mattress, skin on mattress. Yes, you might have a sheet in between the mattress and the baby, but any chemicals in the mattress will quickly work their way through the sheet. If they're spending this much time on the mattress, wouldn't you want them to be sleeping on something that isn't loaded with chemicals? Even you will be on your mattress for 8 hours a night in full contact with whatever the chemical was treated and stuffed with. 2. Babies absorb chemicals through their skin found in mattresses. Petroleum chemicals found in mattresses have been shown to be linked to autoimmune disorders. 3. Fire retardant chemicals are applied to many non organic mattresses. These fire retardant chemicals, such as boric acid, have been known to cause reproductive harm. The worst part is that it's mandated by the government to have mattresses contain this flame retardant substance. 4. Many mattresses have been treated with boric acid. Yes, the same boric acid they use to kill roaches, ants and other pests. Like many other man-made chemicals, boric acid may be responsible for lower sperm counts and reproductive harm. Boric acid works by dehydrating the pests, and poisoning them. It is an acid, and it is in our mattresses. 5. Organic mattresses are still fire retardant. Just because these mattresses are organic, doesn't mean that they lack the fire retardant. Organic mattresses are still responsible to follow Federal and State flammatory regulations. |

I thank you for sharing , Danielle. I do have a question. What is used to make the organic mattress fire retardant? Keep up the good intels. Best wishes. Frederick
I am fascinated that babies sleep 70 percent of the time. Where can I get a job like that?
With all of the chemicals and manmade c-r-a-p we put into the air, in our food, water, products, in the soil, and so forth, you have plenty of fodder for your work. I'm with you on the drive to go green, organic, natural, ....!!!
